Driveline angles

As I have mentioned, I am putting a BB mopar in place of my BB Olds. Of course, this means I have to figure out where to mount the engine.

My question of the day is concering driveline angles and what they should be. 0 Deg? .5 Deg? 1 Degree? How it this supposed to be setup for max HP transfer and longetivity?

its all a matter of personal preference.

some people like to do it zero...some do it 1 degree...to me, it makes sense to have some kind of bind on the driveline....if you do it at zero, it has too much 'play' and will vibrate more.

what ralph and i did on my boat was zero it at the intake where the suction housing mounts....then put the pump in....the pump shaft should be at 4 degrees at that point....then we mounted the motor at 5 degrees. we could have done it at 3, but it would have required a ton more cutting on the motor plates to get it to sit right with the rail kit (the rails were at zero)....so either +1 or -1 from the 4 degrees the pump shaft is at.

What ever you do not put it at 0*, but no more than 4*. All the engines I set are between .5* and 1.5*.

if the pump is set at4* and you say no more than 4, are you setting at3.5 ???
fyi mine is set at 5* with no problems so that would be pump at 4 and engine at 5

Say the pump is set at 4*, and you set the engine at 5* you would have 1* of driveshaft angle.  I take the 4* intake as a base measurement, that would be 0* and anything you go from there is angle.  The reason for this is unless you are willing to pull your intake and reset it, thats your baseline measurement.  If you can imagine four straight lines, one is your keel line, the second is your thrustbearing housing, the third is your crankshaft and the fourth is your driveshaft.  Any angle other than straight works on a u-joint driveshaft up to 4* and promotes u-joint life.  The more angle your put, the more horsepower is lost thru the shaft.

i know this and you know this, i just wanted clarity for the rest. ;)
(edit) before i set any angle i put a header on to see how it looks because i dont want a header pointed up or down, then i will go within the range of degrees to see what looks best

What if the engine is not perfectly straight between the stringers? Mine is slightly angled to the side but the degree of the engine is 0. This was done by accident, but will I will achieve the same effect right?

That should be fine. Basically all you are trying to do is allow the needle bearings to move and keep them lubricated like in a truck.

Ok thanks. I was pretty sure it would be ok and I understand that the angle is what greases the u joints bearings. Just wanted to make sure it's not going to cause issues because of the engine not being completely square with the pump shaft. Thank you for your help.
