Im redoing and cleaning up my fuel system. Im thinking about removing the fuel valve and have the lines from the tanks run direct to the fuel/ water separator instead. running both tanks at the same time. Freeing up some transom space etc... Any more experienced jet boaters out there see me running into problems? besides not being able to switch between tanks anymore? pros? cons?

My old Glencoe had one of those and it went bad, I removed it and never had a problem. I just made sure that both tank lines are exactly the same length so that they will draw evenly, which they did pretty damn close. My new boat is plumbed that way too, but I haven't even taken it out yet lol.

I like having my switch, but in my opinion it's exactly the same as what shocker says, the only difference is I have to watch my tanks to even out the weight, especially in my carrera, mine just hasn't failed, if it does on the water I'm also prepared to fix it. But if I go to change it most likely I will do exactly what shocker said. Jmo though

thanks for the input guys. I got a few trips planned for the boat this month (lake and lower river) and gonna run my set up as is until i get all my new parts and hoses in. maybe it'll grow on me or maybe ill have a used tank valve for sale haha. the bit about having even tank lines is a good idea tho. might change where ill remount a few things.   

My old Hawaiian never had a valve.  Ran both tanks direct to the water separator.  That's all I knew so it worked well for me.  Gas guage was never accurate but I just drew little hash marks on my ski flag at full, med and Low and just kept dipping it in the tank through out the day.  They seemed to never draw evenly though.  Now that I have a switch I don't think I would ever go back.  Doesn't take up really any room on the transom and gives me piece of mind!
Same with the battery.  I have a manual switch over and I know that if one dies I have a fresh one on the other side.  Highly recommend it

I did have one boat that someone put manual shut offs in way up under the gunnels...needless to say I did not find out they were there until I ran the first tank out, got towed in and got home lol

1977 Challenger

Looking to replace my fuel valve selector.
Any recommendations on brand, etc?
The pic is the original valve which seems to draw from the port side fuel tank (slightly) even if the starboard tank is selected.
