Flexplate ringing
« on: September 14, 2013, 08:43:20 PM »
I have a 3 point mount in my boat with a 454, and the flexplate rings at different rpm's. Is this because the balance of the motor is off causing a harmonic vibration at those rpm's? it comes in around 3200 or when I jump on it. What can I do to stop the flexplate from hitting the bellhousing besides having the motor balanced? The previous owner said he had the flexplate replaced and it does look new. Will replacing the flexplate with a flywheel help?

Check and make sure the starter bendix isn't moving allowing it to slide back and contact teeth... it's common

on some cranks you can put the fly wheel on 3 different ways but you want to put it on the it was ballanced at the shop. if it is on wrong it should vibrate the shit out of the boat. check and make sure everything is tight, make sure u-joints arent worn out too, good luck.

Remove the alternator belt and check how much movement you have in the crank shaft by pushing and pulling on the harmonic balancer.
