There you go. You would either need a different starter, or a shop to modify your existing starter to work with a flexplate.
My recommendation would be to just spend the $50 on a new ring and replace the one on the flywheel you have, providing it is the correct flywheel for the new motor.

You can knock the old ring off the flywheel with a block of hardwood and a sledge hammer, heat up the new gear to about 300°F and drop it on the flywheel with the disc side down. Done. Takes about fifteen minutes with the flywheel off the engine.
