Starter block off plate??
« on: August 04, 2017, 08:17:35 PM »
So I have a top mount starter, what I'm looking for is something to bolt up where a bottom mount starter would go to help keep any random oily water being flung off my flywheel onto my new carpet, curious if there's something on the market or if it's something I'll make myself.

Yeah, that's going to be tough. Borg Warner makes a plate for Mercruisers with high mount starters, it mounts under the block and the bell housing. There is a chance I have one in the stash somewhere. I'll try to check it out.

I have one, but it's not what I thought it was.... If fits a very specific bell housing for a Velvet Drive transmission.

What bell housing are you using?

Right on, I appreciate you checking, in not sure exactly which bellhousing it is, I've stripped the paint off it before and it has no stamping or anything, whatever would have come stock with the panther/BBC combo I assume. I'm gonna dig into it a bit tomorrow and see what I can whip up for the time being. Just had the carpet all done so I'm determined to come up with something to keep it clean

I made my own for my Indmar three point bell housing from 16ga aluminium. Traced it from the bell housing and cut it out with a jigsaw. A little sanding and drilling mounting holes and it looks better than what is available and it won't rust.
