Timing chain cover bolt patterns are the same..... correct....?

Nope... different bolt pattern. Gen V has 10 bolts like a Mk4, but a different pan hoop. The Gen VI has 6 bolts, but the same pan hoop as the Gen V.

You CAN re-drill the block to take the other... they do share the same dowel pins and a couple bolt holes, but only reason to do that is if you have some sort of cam drive cover that is either quite spendy or oddball.

I knew the oil pans were different but wasn't sure what else was.
This Gen VI gets real pricey, real fast.

Eh... there are only a couple differences between the two "Gen" blocks... Hydraulic roller provisions and the front cover... pans are the same.

My qualm is seeing all this Mark 4, Gen V stuff and having a Gen VI block.
A v drive timing chain cover isn't that expensive so I'll probably buy a new one before I find a good used one.
I got a pan and I got heads so I thought that was the extent of the differences.

Well. if you have a Gen V timing cover you need, then just drill and tap a few holes, and your golden on your Gen VI block. Also... if you have Mk4 heads, for the most part, they will go on Gen V and Gen VI blocks, and visa-versa... you just have to be sure there is enough meat around the water passages in the valley area to seal... about .120 worth of overlap seems to be adequate in my experience.
