How to clean up my headers

Nordie was telling me today that I can safely use Naval Jelly to remove the rust from between the tubes on my Bassetts. I have never done done this. Can someone give me a quick once over on how not to fork up my headers? BP

I have used Eagle one chrome and wire wheel cleaner on mine before....Works killer... 8)

I have also cleaned up some ratty lookin' fockers with CLR.... :thumbup:

Don't let either of these get any where near polished aluminum or anodizing....Do them off the boat. :sly:

Naval jelly is pretty mild stuff and works well, just don't ever let it dry, the oxidizing starts when it dries and it could lift the chrome clean off the pipes... :thumbdown:...

How do you get in between the pipes with the eagle one or the clr? Will the naval jelly destroy my chrome if I don't leave it on too long?

there is some nice wool header polish you can buy in a harley shop. But it will cost ya $100.

jsut jokin.  I use the wool wadding for cleaning header pipes all the time and it works good with little effort.

I'm working with a decent set and am able to clean up the chrome ok. Nordie was telling me that the rust between the pipes could be removed very easily. I am looking to remove the rust where I can't get my fingers to polish or steel wool.

John, get a 30 pack, invite Nordie over, and have him show you! The kid'll have'em sparkling like new in no time! Spent some time helping HDRider polish his shizzle up enough to realize how good the Zephyr stuff that Nordies been telling me about for a couple years WORKS!
