Ignition resistance?

I got an electronic RTR dizzy for the boat, the dizzy says
"Coil with a primary resistance of 0.5 to 1.0 OHMS"

My coil has 1.2 OHMS, am I gonna kill this dizzy running this coil?

"Testing Testing" sorry my memory isn't as sharp as it used to be, IMO you need to get an "open" ignition coil, some coils are internally resisted and some are "long winding", some are "short winding" its hard to tell, but you need a LongShort winding non-resisted coil.

Edited, cause my fingers were going faster than my brain... ;D

You won't have a good spark, get a different coil.

The longer the windings the more resistance the more output and longer the "soak time" required to make the rated spark.

Some coils are internally resisted and do not require a ballast resistor, which increases the overall resistance of the coil, not what you need.

Some of the liquid filled coils (which I think you may have) are full of oil and have a slightly higher resistance than a dry type, go with the Accel, or MSD blaster non resisted coil and it should work out killer.  BTW if you do a resistance check on a coil, short the (+ and -) terminals together first for a second (obviously with the leads disconnected from power) to rid of any capacitance voltage, otherwise your readings will be "false".

I was sort of an "Ignition Nerd" in High school and went through Chryslers PFI and TBI schools to learn as much as possible about this crap before boats were "all" fuel injected computer controlled nightmares, been 15 years and still has not happened.
