Intake manifold recommendations
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:20:47 PM »
I'm thinking it's time for an aftermarket intake, the question is do I want a single plane? Dual Plane? Air Plane?

Engine is a .040 429, mild cam, points ignition, bassett headers, D3 heads, 800CFM Holley DP

Anybody?

As you know probably know skip we've done a few test of intakes on different combo fords. With a .030" over 429, C9 heads, big valves, and a decent hydraulic cam.... there was no Mph difference between a Victor intake, and the Weiand Stealth. Spinning a tight A impeller 5200Rpm.

Now if it was a 460, it would probably be a different story. From a few dynos I've seen it seems like after 5200 is when the single plane takes over and makes more power..... but the little 429 doesn't have enough size, or perhaps stroke, to really turn good RPM, this is also with an 11.5:1, and different carberator combinations

Cessna 172RG w/ 160HP option and constant speed prop ;D

How hard does it run now?, if it stays in the 5,000 area I like the Edlebrock RPM Air Gap, But if it will run over 5k go to a Torker. IMO the air gaps make really good mid/upper to about 5,000 and are easy to tune with a double pumper beacause of the hybrid carb opening, they also respond well to open spacers.

Haven't used one yet, but heard good things about the Weiand Team G Stealth stuff from the race guys running crate engines.

Yeah it caught my attention O0  I wrapped it up and put it in storage when I switched to the tunnel ram in case I didn't like the new set up.  Now I like the look of the TR too much to switch back, even if it is more of a hassle.  Mine pushed an almost stock 460 to 5400 RPM's with a Edlebrock 750 logs and snailsand an A impeller.  I even pushed it up in the 6000's when I was towing a boat (that cost me a bearing :banghead:) but it got there smoothly
