It did go up to my amp meter. but when I made the new harness I did it for a volt meter. the alternator I believe Is a 3 wire but there is only 2 wires connected. one im guessing is the exciter wire because it goes to the ignition wire and the other is the main charge wire I guess and it just goes up to the wireing block and im guessing the 3rd (non used) would be the idiot light. So tonight I took the main wire and ran it to the starter solenoid and hoping thats correct we will know tomorow after my battery charges.

here are 2 diagrams that I'm using. they were the same as the stock harness for my 77 Southwind. It's a bbc. They made a few upgrades tho. I couldn't get the pics to come out good so the top 2 are for 1 diagram and the bottom 2 are for the second diagram.

mike , i think on your app.......

the coil power will be the same "in" but it will go to the msd box first then out of msd to the coil and pertronix leads out of the dizzy.

hey found this site while lookin for a wire diag for my boat. what a big help, thanks a bunch. one more question, my starter does not have a solenoid on it where do i run the purple, and white wire?    3 wire alt points ing.   thanks again   mike

that diag shpwes a solenoid on the starter. what if i dont have a solenoid on my starter?

I put em on a pdf so you can blow them up or print them. The universal one is the harness most of us have under the dash and runs to the back of the boat. depending on what motor make you have, ford chevy or olds is the harness that goes in the back of the boat. This is 90% of the wiring that goes in a jet boat.

Hey guys I'm having a problem with my charging system as well. The alternator checks out good off the boat but it will not keep the boat running when you pull a battery cable, it immediatly shuts down. I have an AMC 360 with I beleive the 3 wire Alternator. Will one of these diagrams work for that application? I'm planning on tracing each wire back and testing the voltage on each. I did notice that the Gas tank switch is not working along with the gas gauge and engine temp. Will these gauges not being in working order make it so that the alternator wont charge the battery. Would this be an incomplete circut. Sorry I'm new to boats and could use a little better understanding of the electrical system.

well i screwed myself royally. i have been taking pics of EVERYTHING when taking it apart on my rebuild, but what i didnt expect is my harddrive to crash. so now i have zero reference for my wiring. which of these should i use for my setup. SBC
DIST. pertronix converted, but i plan on installing a msd box and blaster coil.
 1-wire alt.
Gauges- mech oil press, water temp, tach and voltmeter.
Mech fuel
basically a bare bones setup.

romper stomper your the man!! ive had so many pple saying i cant do this cant do that... and im fucking tired of hearing it.. MY lil brother passed away horribly .. and i took his boat its all i have. i just pulled the motor cuz of a bad ujoint..and with the motor out i decided to redu everything thats bad to save me time and money later. And the elecrical is teh worse. wires faded and shorted and now with ur pics and ur time to help out those who enjoy what u do.. i say brav fuckin O! It has a chevy... but i wish it wish it was a FORD.. yea BUDDY!!
