Locos Ochos!
« on: July 15, 2016, 07:33:43 PM »
Making some progress on a fun project... 512 Big Block Ford going into the CJ888 boat.

For some reason I didn't get shots of it in the line hone or boring bar... And obviously it will get/has a main girdle and I line honed the block with it on... just makes assembling the bottom end easier when it's not in the way and gets installed last... After the rods are torqued up. Once I get a little further, I put up more photos and go into more detail as to what is going into this build... But for now, it's a 4.441 bore x 4.150 stroke... Je flat top pistons, Scat 6.800 rods w/ARP2000 bolts, Scat 4340 steel crank, std Ford d1ve block that has been sonic checked for cylinder eall thickness, fitted and line honed with a main girdle and studs in a Sunnen line hone, square and zero decked with a BHJ deck tru fixture in a Storm Vulcan blockmaster, rough bored to 4.438 in a Rottler boring bar, finished honed to 4.441... The rotating assembly balanced within 1 gram... Crankshaft got a final super fine polish... Rods checked for size and then honed with a Sunnen rod hone to get the clearance we were looking for using Clevite H series rod bearings... and then the rod small end bushings and pistons were pin fitted in the same machine. All clearances were checked for the 3rd time before the block was painted and fitted with Durabond performance series cam bearings. Then rods and pistons were assembled, rings file fitted to each bore (even though there is less than .0002" variance between cylinders... We still make sure each piston and ring package goes with it's intended cylinder)... And the rotating assembly installed in the block. The last thing I did, but first thing checked after the cam bearings were installed, was install the custom ground Schneider solid roller camshaft. Though not super exotic, or huge lift (only .685 lift), it should suit the combo pretty nicely and be a good comprise between mid range torque to pull out of the corners and quickly rev to the top end rpm without having to use a super small impeller, preferably something a bit larger so as to keep the enging from having to spin super high revs and, along with quality parts being used, increase it's longevity.

Ready to make some noise in the morning... Pre-dyno check-out... Readjust valves, set timing, etc... So we are spending dyno loot on tuning and not just wasting it to get it to run...
