If the heads are for a jet boat, you'd be better off with the large oval port heads. From what I've been told by several jet boat pros, they're much better for mid-range RPM than the rec port heads.

I honestly don't know what their value is...   I believe the seats can use a little cleanup, and they aren't warped.

I'd would be open to trade for a droop / droop snoot -I've been wanting to see what, if anything, it would do for my ride.  Open to trade for other jet performance parts????

Are these heads for a jet boat? According to my BBC Book (How To Build Max Performance Chevy Rat Motors by Ed Staffel, published by SA Designs) rec port heads are more for a motor that will be spinning 7000+ RPMs. For a jet boat large oval port heads are your best bet IMHO. Just my $0.02.

These were on my jet boat.  I read somewhere on the 'net that these were used from the mid 90's  and later for Marine 454/502 HO.   They were stock on my boat -never removed or worked on.  I burned up some valves the summer prior and... long story short, I went with a new a$$ebled set and these have been in my garage since (bare).  They have been magnafluxed and from what I was told these can be worked on -I didn't have to time to wait, hence the new set.  I don't have the know-how to es'plain much more other than that these are heavy ass paperweights that bend wood shelves when stored too long.

If you're local you are more than welcome to take a look.  I'd rather hook someone up on the boards for a reasonable price than make a few bucks on a random shmuck.  Karma.  I'd be down to trade for any jet boat goodies.  A droop/snoot + $?  or anything to make me as cool as you guys...  ::)

You can use a rect/sq port intake on an oval head as long as you use rect/sq port intake manifold gaskets.

I have a set of 049's but I wouldn't part with them until after I've got a set of rect port heads.  :-\

Legal Chemistry, PM sent.

I phoned the local guru's and... uhg... must have thought I was completely stupid, told me both 049's and 990's cores are worth $100 - $200. NOT. Someone told me 049 cores are worth $200 - $250 (ea) and 990's $250 - $350 (ea).   ???

Haven't the 049's been discontinued for a long time as well? Weren't the 990's replaced by the identical 880's which are put on marine crate engines?   ???

I don't know about the 049's. The only reason I know about the 990's is because I ruined one on my last motor, and when I went to buy 1, everyone laugphed at me.
I called scoogin dickey, I called every machine shop in utah ect.  BTW not sure about the 880's.

Here's some cut/paste info from a quick search:

14097088 1989-94 502 Open GEN V, 118.0cc, IP 325cc, replacement

14097088...91-up...rect...OPEN...Gen.V 454/502 HO, 118cc chamber

14097088 Iron      Cast   Open 118cc  I: 2.19"  E: 1.88"    325cc    Rect.    Square    use with Gen V big-block engine P/N 24502618-20 "BARE"

I thought these were still used on crate engines?  Hotrod, was the guy you talked to looking to buy heads for that price -that would explain $100.

c'mon, anything to throw on the table.  My boat barge want to get movin' on up the slow river this year.   ;D

Sounds like the 880's are basically the same as 990's however the 880's were on Gen V engines whereas 990's were on Gen IV, I don't know if they're interchangeable.  ???  Yes, he said he'd have to see the heads but he said he'd probably give $100 a piece for cores. I will swap you for the droop on my boat but I'm sure you can find a better deal out there.   ;)  I've got pretty decent heads already and I am more interested in getting the rotating assembly that I am going to need.

'049's seem to be the most popular jet boat head I have seen run. Lots of jet boaters run them and swear by them. Chris Straub will even tell you that for a jet boat '049's are capable of some serious power.

Not sure I understand, but are you saying you changed those to rect port? It sure looks like it. I had those heads on my last engine, real good for making compression. I was told the only thing "wrong" with those heads is that they couldn't breathe well enough, it sure looks like you took care of that problem! What do you mean by no "stones on your heads"? How much $$$?
