Marine Alternators

I have a 2002 Jet Boat that has a Duralast DL7127M alternator. The alternator just died on me so need a replacement. Autozone has the exact model but I'm guessing its a auto alternator and not a marine version. Can anyone confirm this. If its not, is there a direct replacement for it?

If they are cheep, run the autozone one. The only diff is the marine is sealed.

If the alternator is in a closed engine compartment I would strongly recommend that you use a marine unit.

Thanks, yes, it's a closed engine compartment. The guy I got the boat from has been using a duralast from day one, but I'd prefer to switch to a marine unit. My problem is that I can't ID which would be a direct replacement. My photo shows three wires. Two have a single plug connector. The third mounts to a stud. I'd prefer to keep the current wiring if possible. Anyone know what would be a direct replacement?

I seriously doubt Autozone will have a marine alternator. Like Jake said the difference is marine alternators have spark suppression screens added. You can run automotive one for sure, but under a hatch, I agree, I would try to keep the marine one on there. In a pinch, run the Autozone one, but don't give them yours as a core. I would have yours rebuilt by a reputable builder making sure they understand it's a marine application, and what that means. Or do a Google search for marine replacement, I'm sure Tom @ JBP has them in stock.

That's a basic "Delco" style alternator, commonly referred to as a single wire alternator. Very common alternator.

Thanks. Just for clarification, I'm not looking to replace it with a autozone alternator. I'm looking for a marine alternator that would be the replacement for it. It's understood that they are all pretty much universal but I'm looking for one that would use my current connectors. As it's a common delco type I'm sure someone makes them but checking on line most adds don't clearly show the type if connectors. Guess I was just hoping that someone might have a part number interface from the delco 7129m to a marine equivalent

Any further advice is appreciated!

Most if not all generator repair shops can rebuild and convert the Delco Remy alternators to an SAE marine.

It needs the screens installed an a special plug.

My local shop charges about $75 for the conversion and normally about another $100 for the rebuild with bearings, regulator, brushes and load test.

I use the 75 amp version.

Thanks for all the help. I have a much better understanding now. Looks like it's a 10SI. I was pretty sure what I needed but wanted to confirm with some part numbers or applications.

This is my first jet boat after 30 years of jet skis so there us a learning curve. It's been great so far. The alt died last week so my son replaced it with the same. Using a auto alt was never a issue with the past owner but I'd rather be safe and get a marine version.
