Yes to all to a point, you should have a BALL valve from the pump to the motor, water lines. If one of the water hoses were to blow you can regulate the flow of water from the pump to your motor and not sink your boat

Makes sense. I also just realized that's probably why my dad had always had extra hoses stuffed under the bow.
