MSD 6M-2 Marine Ignition
« on: January 22, 2008, 01:56:34 PM »
Does anyone have any performance info / feedback on these?  What kind of power gains, etc.  Are they worth the money?

Thanks,
Cole

Damnit! He's right again, had he had a scoop on his boat it would have quite running, no wonder he has velocity stacks.   ;)

The biggest most important question is do you have an enclosed engine compartment ?
If so you need the Marine version if not go with the 6AL. They are all about the same in the way of water resistance but the USCG stamp and aprovale is why it has the extra cost, spark surpresion !

I had the 6AL on my 460 powered F250 with a 6700 pill in it. Worked great even after many many mud baths.

Had the 6M2 in my boat. Also worked flawlessly aside from the obvious lack of a rev limiter. It even survived a bunch of Mexican kids flinging mud ALL over my boat while we were at the camp ground, for those of you who know Buena Vista, that mud is disgusting.

I have been told that the marine version is fully potted in exopy and that it runs really hot and has not been as reliable as the 6al just from the temps it runs.

Don't know about the heat but if you wipe out a 6A or AL you can send it in for service of they will sometimes replace it free of charge, if your 6M-2 goes down because of the epoxy you cant service it.   I have a 6M-2 on the little boat........because its blue ::)

And MSD does have a 6m-2l version now that has a built in rev limiter (no extra rev box), for a ridiculous retail value of $400

BV is about 12 min from my house and I refuse to go there on the weekends.  Too many boats, and sh*t like mud being thrown on boats happens to much!

another alternative is pro comp # pc-2015 has rev limiter both dial and msd insert, wires identically and is cheaper than MSD and Summitt.  I use them on the 410 & 222 Boats. On line at www.procompelectronics.com

I hear ya.  Too many people swimming!  Although I go out during the week every once in a while and the water looks completly different.  I think it is because there are not any boats turning up the bottom of the lake.

I wonder how many Greenfield's there are in California. I grew up in King City, about 12 miles south of Greenfield. However neither are very close to Taft Hwy or 99.   ???

Very true.  Greenfield is a part of Bakersfield (my mailing address is Bakersfield, Ca).  There are multiple areas in or on the outskurts of Bakersfield that are called different names like: Old river, Pumpkin Center, Oildale, Rosedale, Olive Drive, Panama.
