Harmonic balancer
« on: March 16, 2008, 11:35:20 AM »
Ok i took it of so i could put on some purdy chrome chit..... Its been years since ive done any engine work  sooo......i was wondering . Whats the best way to put it back on ? Block of wood and a hammer to get it started... The bolt seems a little short so i have to get it on somehow.......

Whats the trick.........I dont want to fug it up...... I could load it up and take it to the shop down the street ???  But they charge $85 an hour :o

This is something so simple, but im feeling retarded cause i forgot how to........... :banghead:
And i think my little compressor is to weak to power it back on.

My experiance has been that the chevy's are harder to get off, and harder to put on...........As much as i would love to save that money.

I think the tool is the best way to go. I could probably rent one for and hour for $10 bucks from the parts house ???..

Get the tool if you can,  no reason to chance dinking up the thrust/main bearing by pounding the balancer back on.  O0

Just get the right bolt - and one or two progressively longer (each 1/2 to 1 inch longer with the threads going past where the other one starts), and just screw it on.

Buy the right tool!!! It's not that expensive and a far better choice than potentially damaging your crankshaft threads or your thrust bearing.
Summit Racing Balancer Tools A dedicated Chevy tool can be had for as little as $24

I vote for the tool as well. Once you use it your days of beating one back on will be over for good. They work so damn slick you'll think youre a dumbazz for doing any other way..... I bought one years ago and it's paid for itself a dozen times.
