i just bought a 78' tx19 youngblood 3 weeks ago and i blew the motor yesterday right through the top of the oil pan and bottom of the block.

That exact same thing happened to me to when I bought my boat (melted piston).  In fact, most everyone goes through that when buying a new jet boat.  I call it the jet boat tax.  We build 460's and 8 times out of 10 the customer "just bought the boat" and--boom--it grenaded.  454, 460, 455, it doesn't really matter....

i was wanting some information on what parts i need or would it be better to just buy new motor. the block number is D1ve 460 with supposedly over 600hp. the boat was running fine when broke. i was running at 4k on the tach when she let go. would greatly appreciate some wisdom on this matter. maybe a ballpark figure on price to fix at speed shop, or the parts to buy. thank you.

If you truly have a 600 hp 460, then I assume you have some really nice parts in it.  If that's the case then you are probably better off tearing the engine down, assessing damage, and rebuilding what you have. Hopefully you will only need to rebuild the shortblock onto which you could install your top end, for example.

Cost? $1500-$7500 depending on what you really have for a shortblock, the cost of replacing the parts and/or which direction you decide to go in order to get back in the water.  Of course it might not really have 600 hp and a simple engine rebuild will have you back in the water. Whatever you do, DO NOT purchase a rebuilt engine from an auto parts store; the money you think you are saving will ultimately be further invested into the engine shortly thereafter.....conitinue to do you your homework and rebuild the engine right the first time.

If you have a D1VE block now then the chances are that any D1VE block will serve as a replacement. In fact, any C8VE, C9VE, D0VE, or D1VE block ought to serve as a replacement. Whether or not a D9TE block can serve as a replacement depends on the actual rotating assy in your engine, but if it's a 460 OEM internal balance crank in a D1VE block the D9TE block will not likely be a suitor.

You really need to first tear down the engine and see what you're working with....

i took my boat to hi-tech performance inc. today to start the tear down. have any of you heard of this place? he has boats in there from all over the country. i've heard he is a great builder.

he pretty much knew right of the bat one of the reasons of the mechanical failure was the oil pan and sump was his first guess. i knew better when i bought the boat but the guy said he never had a problem with it.

X3, you can't NOT afford him. Cost you quite a bit more to have some hack rebuild your motor ever winter........

The block is half filled with water passage filler, I'm not sure how that will affect it's use in a boat. The sleeve doesn't scare me any.

i got some good news today. duane tore down my motor and said that my block could be saved! thats a big money saver. hell yeah!
