NEW CARB

i am about to purchase a new card.  I currently have a 750 edelbrock. ???  since buying it about 2 years ago i have had NO issues what-so-ever with it.,,,it just looks like shit now.  I am thinking about a QuickFuel or ProForm.   My engine is a very mildly built 454 and very reliable.  Should i stick to Edelbrock (endurashine) or change?  I have heard that the 2 that i am looking take more "tuning"....or maybe intial tuning?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you were running an out of the box Edelbrock carb without fine tuning (jetting/metering rod adjustments), you were probably leaving some performance on the table.

If you are willing to spend the time (and sometimes aggrevation) to tune a carburetor, I would recommend a Holley or any of the Holley clones out there over the Edelbrock.

The big thing is that if you are running an engine cover you need to use a coast guard approved marine carburetor no matter what you decide.

We don't want to have another member loose a boat to fire  :thumbdown:

If you've had ZERO issues with it, why the hell would you want to replace it :screwy:? If it's dirty and not so neat looking anymore, try cleaning the thing, maybe you can hit it with some Nev R Dul to give it a bit of a shine? If that's not your cup of tea, Eastwood makes a line of carb paints & coatings that'll make an old POS look like new in no time. If you've got money falling out of your ass and you just can't help but spend some long green,go with a QFT 800 and your boat will love you for it.

If your boat has a relatively mild 454 in it, basically stock with a mild cam, I'd say 800 to 850 would be perfect. I come from a hot rod background and when I first started playing with jet boats I was convinced that 99% of the boats I saw had too much carburetion, I've since learned that jet boats will take all the carb you give em. My mild 460 ran an 850 and loved it.

Josh , never been a fan of the Edelbrocks or for that matter thier predecesors Carter AFB's . Been using , building and modifing Holleys for years with good sucess,We  hooked up with Quick fuel Technologies a few years ago and have had very few issues or concerns Also used AED and a few others as well . Honestly Some of the cleanest stuff out there is Proform (QFT makes some of thiere parts) Call if I can help Tom

Dog leg booster
+ flows the most fuel
- Large drops, needs the most acc pump

Annular booster. basically the fuel comes out of a big donut with a bunch of small holes around the inside of the donut assuring a fine mist of fuel (big droplets don't burn).
+ better burning, quicker throttle response, more power
- the ring (donut part) is resrictive itself, so an 850 CM carb will only flow 830 CFM when converted. Sometime the booster signal is really strong causing an over rich condition
