Looks like it might have been clearenced for a stroker crank?

Tall deck or standard deck? What did you pay for it, curiousity killed the cat? I watched one end on eBay last night for $900 (+ shipping). I'm seriously hoping that's not an indication of machining costs for a block because if it is then my jet boat is phocked for this year. $:-\$

actually its a small block 40over the better made of the castings it has the higher nickle and tin content fresh from the machine shop new billet main caps line honed and just begging for goodies i paid a pretty penny for it but guess what these little small blocks are starting to come harder and harder to come by i been researching what the hell i wanna do...having a block that is already clearenced i am thing stroke her and use a 6 inch rod with a nice piston and a healthy cam...probably some aluminum heads and exploring the possibility of fuel injection...my mind will change about 50 times before i even turn a wrench but that is were i am leaning

In the new Hot Rod mag they go into a new GMPP crate motor based on the LS7 Vette motor. Iron block and can be built to a 482 cu in. Supposedly good for up to 2,000 HP!!! As delivered it dynoed 470 ft/lbs at 3,000 rpm and 552 ft/lbs at 5,000 rpm with 594 ponies at 6,400 rpm. If they can do it so can you.

Any time you bring up SBC in the jet boat world your gonna stir the pot, but thats half the fun

. I've got a SB Ford in mine and I wouldn't trade it for the world. We've used many Small Blocks through out the years with great success, and we have a project or two with a SB's already lined up futuristically.

thanks guys...i just loaned my motor money to a guy for an investment i should get some kick back on it so i hope when i get my kick back i can just order everything and be done with it...i'll be ordering a rotating assembly and take it all to the maching shop to have everything blue printed and since tools are limited i will have them put the short block together for me...then i will order a nice set of aluminum heads and possibly run an air gap intake....no t/r for me...and as of right now i am leaning towards magneto...oh yea the cam will be a comp cam actually cut for a inboard outboard SBC nothing to radical....as far as the lower end goes it will be a stroker crank...5.7 rod and flat top pistons (hyperneumatic)...the block is 40 over so it will be a 385 stroker...im thinking i should have some nice low end tourque with the extra displacement and it should spin up nice around 6500...

If ya stop by a major book store they often have a book with proven combos from biuld ups in hot rad , and car araft mags. It's all about air flow, and the parts combo. My o2 on hyperutectic picstons is about the same as my opinion on powdered metal rods. Fine for daily driver...NOTHING else. Ya load a motor with bad gas, have the timing off a little, ya got problems. The rods they don't bend or stretch. Forged rods do. then the motor makes a funny niose, shut it down , few hundred $ latter you're back on the water. Powdered rode break then band saw block and cam , and usually the heads.

Yepper!! Forged is the way to go. It has more forgiveness for opps that happen. Prop out of the water etc. I'd base the cyl head on the rest of the combo. The heads and have to work together. 450hp on pump gas is an easy figure to hit. Put a small 175hp nos system on it and waaahoooo!!!

yeah i think im going to stay away from the baby bottle...more work involved with timing and piston cam choices...at least to do it properly in my book...however i have seen an add in super chevy where they took a standard bore 2 bolt main out of a station wagon put a nitrous cam in it aluminum intake and holley carb with a wet plate and stuck that bastard on the dyno...they kept upping the nitrous till they gernaded it...it took 700HP before the rods went through the block pretty sweet article...yeah i need to get the upholstery dropped off today so i can start on the motor leaning towards early next week...looks like i will have alot done by the late part of next week, but if i would have stuck to my original deadline this boat would have been done a month and a 1/2 ago...

Hot off the press...just ordered my rotating assembly...4340 CRANK 4340 H Beam Rods king bearings and keith black forged 40 over pistons all internally balanced equivalent to a 385 stroker with it being .40 over instead of .30 over

Cam Help?

Alright this is something I know little about...I know some but I am pretty stumped on what to do here for a cam...abviously if you have read the previous postings you know where my setup is going...Im looking for a good cam to accomodate this...I know there are dual duration and single duration cams and yadda yadda...The cam I was looking at was made by comp cams it was an extreme marine cam

Operating Range:   2000-6200 RPM
Duration Advertised:   278° Intake / 292° Exhaust
Duration @ .050'' Lift:   234° Intake / 244° Exhaust
Valve Lift w/1.5 Rockers:   .498'' Intake / .500'' Exhaust
Lobe Separation Angle:   112°

but who knows so I am looking for some assistance and possibly some cam education broken down into dummy mode

Great choice in rotating assy!!! King bearings are top o the line.

What heads? For cam stuff I usually call the companygive them my complete combo ,and my expectations ,maint. scheduale, etc. Or a buddy that had a similar combo that ran good,I use the same.Yer gonna have a sweet motor that will last for years.

Heads will probably be aluminum in the 64CC range topped with 1.6 ratio roller rockers...as far as a manufacturer on the heads i dunno...however there is a set of camel humps sitting on a 56 chevy in my grandpas backyard...that car hasnt moved but once since i was born, but he bought that car for my grandma brand new so IDK
