what do you guys think...it carries sg rating, and there is some video on it...just picked up 12 quarts

The SG rating is meaningless....ignore that.
I'm leary of using oil from a company that publishes no product data sheets or MSDS that would indicate it's real qualities, what's in it, and how it performs, on their website
I've emailed them asked for it...about an hour ago. No response yet.

So, ever since you've brought this up I've been talking to the boys at Z-alt trying to figure out what they're selling.....
Seems their claim to fame is that they've found a way to keep moly in solution...which nobody else has been able to do. They might have something with their additive.
I wouldn't bother with their oil though...it's nothing special. Just a basic crap group II base stock
SG oil that is about 20 years obsolete....which is probably why it works in old cars. They say their base oil has a minimum of 1750ppm ZDDP. Because of the ZDDP content, this oil will not meet any API grades after 1996....but they say they're getting it from Chevron. ...maybe they've got a couple of old rusty tanks full of it leftover.
The fact of the matter is that if they are using an SG base oil, their additive is relatively pointless because the base product itself has everything you need to keep a flat tappet cam happy.
This is not, buy any means, a high performance oil. It's crap oil with a questionable additive that would work great in your bone stock 74 cadillac that comes out of the garage every now and again for a stroll down to the diner.
The additive may be of value when added to a higher quality oil derived from group III or Group IV base stocks, but group II stuff is for the lawnmower.

I TOO WANNA CHANGE THE OIL BUT NOT SURE WHAT I SHOULD BE USING... SINCE ITS A BOAT AND NOT A CAR....

In all my cars/boats I have only ever used kendall or lately I have been using Valvoline VR1 oil..... In my motorcycle I use either Yamalube or Amsoil.

My last 3 trucks have all gone over 250K miles with zero oil issues using Castrol. I have also used it as pre-mix (Castol R) and never had a seizure in over 25 years of racing MX with the same bike. Just sayin' . . .

I have been an Amsoil user/dealer for over a decade, love the stuff..
Castrol is good stuff, but with the reformulation, all oils are going to start to suffer...
I would recommend using "Racing oil" with the needed zinc that is missing from the new formulations...
I also use Comp Cams additive for good measure, I call it cheap insurance. :thumbup:
You cannot do "bad" by changing out old oil. Hell Wesson oil in the crankcase is better than old grungy contaminated crap. ;)

I will never push a product down anyone's throat, but hit me up if you want to know more about Amsoil and their products...I don't make a boatload on cash from it, but if I can help you out, lemmeknow.... 8)

I use the Dominator 15w50 with a half dose of Comp Cams additive and my oil temperature is controlled....The oil samples come back "contaminated with free zinc"... :D

Whats your opinion on the marine oil ? Looks like it has a better / lower number for the wear test, and somekind of anti rust additive. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/wcf.aspx (http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/wcf.aspx) Looks like a nice idea, but it says nothing about zinc and phosphorus for the flat tappet cams.

All oils have their place in the market however the zinc has been removed or lowered in most oils.I myself use Shell Rotella 15-40 and does a great job. It is recommended for all types of Diesel engines. It is used in Diesel engine's that demand more than a car or boat needs. A can of zinc additive added will cover that problem.
A diesel engine use 15-18 - 1 compression and close bearing clearances. Severe heat is also a factor in Diesel engines.Temps normal 200-212 , oil temps are also high.The wear on a diesel rod and crank is on the top shell due to the high compression and when you take them apart the bottom looks like new. Difference ,If this oil can suffice for those engines it will work just fine in the boat.
For the oil to do its work everything in the installation of the components, has to be precise if not at that point it doesn't matter what price the oil is.

So after negative feedback on the z-alt i have decided on a new oil...and les from the speedshop recommended lucas 20-50 race only full synthetic...high zinc...at 43.00 per 5 quarts...gonna give it a go...i had wonderful luck with lucas in my dirtbike why not in the motor
