Newbie questions
« on: June 17, 2018, 12:26:02 PM »
Just bought an ultra jet boat last week and took it out this weekend for the first time. We love the boat just have a few questions

1. Hydraulic lift hatch had trouble opening after its been closed a while. And  it’s pretty slow, maybe just tired. Is it best to add a second one?

2. Steering feels stiff under power is this normal for a jet or should I replace cable or look into a hydraulic set up?

3. Bilge pump is really load- if I replace it should I go with an automatic style? Not sure the one in it is.
Thanks

1. Take a look at the pump for the hatch. It may be low on fluid or going bad. It should lift the hatch no problem.

2.  The steering should be smooth and effortless even under power. The cable could be going bad or the O-rings on the nozzle could be going bad. I’ve heard of those causing the same issue when they start to go. Replacing the cable is not a bad idea. I’ve heard several stories of broken cables. That’s not a good situation to be in on the river.

3.  An automatic bilge in addition to the switch is never a bad idea!

It sounds like some normal maintenance for a boat that’s a few years old. Let’s see some pics of the boat!

Some hatch rams are not hydraulic as is with my buddy’s hallett , look at the alignment on it and make sure that the ram is in the correct side of the bracket. Steering , change the cable ! Always do that when u buy a boat that is older . Peace of mind thing . Bilge pump replace with the computer style one as is will work in auto and manual

Thank you for the help.
Thinking again on the actuator I think it is electric not hydraulic.
I will try changing the cable on steering because pump was freshly rebuilt, unless there’s an easy way to see which needs to be replaced?
The steering wheel is also upside down when driving straight.
Attached is a pic
Thanks!

Going to replace my steering cable. Can anyone help me identify the length of this Morse cable?
Thanks

Thank you! Just got it ordered.
Anyone add a gas strut on opposite side of hatch to help actuator?
Mine has a hard time lifting after it’s been closed for a while. It also draws 28amps so I’m thinking with the bot not running it’s not getting the power it needs.
Tested voltage and going up only getting 5.5volts going down 9.5 volts.
