nicson set up?
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:42:45 PM »
hey guys new to forum (thank you for having me) and new owner, so this tahiti i just picked up has an out dated (from what i can find) cooling set up. jet to nicson logs, through logs then to engine, through engine and both dumps run to the snails and just dumps in the snails. I am not sure i like the fact that all of that water is constantly in the exhaust, i feel better if there was no water in the exhaust until 1,500-2,000 rpm? does any one have any pics/diagrams of the inside of snails? what is the inside design of a snail? what is every ones thought/experience with this set up? Thank you.

Your logs and snails are both double walled.  The snail and logs water are separate. Most snails feed on the bottom and then there is a opening just before the port/exit.  The best type of log I've seen or used are the ones that have the water jacket going to ports(especially on a ford like the thru bolt). You must have a constant water flow while engine is running to keep the snail to tip hose from melting.

What u did i my thru the transom exhaust was I added a t-fitting on my snails with a ball valve on each to limit the water that gose thru them and added to water out let's on the boat for the extra water to go out. Works good still keeps the sails cool to the touch and its a bit louder do to less water.
