I have a BBC with a 14qt Bassett oil pan. Normal oil psi is 25 at idle up to 75 at full throttle. My problem is if I'm on it and then let out of throttle it will drop to zero for a second or two. Wouldn't that pan have some sort of baffling built in it so all the oil doesn't rush to front of pan and starve the pump?

How much oil do you have in that 14 quart pan?

Have you done this test with a mechanical gauge? Could it be electrical?

It actually sounds like a windage problem.

also, are you certain the pan bottom is not touching anything?

Bought the boat complete haven't seen the inside. @GT the previous owner told me to keep it at the add mark on the dip stick.  Without building it myself I'm kinda in the dark on what kind of baffling I got going on in there. I know it does have a windage tray.

Thinking about pulling motor so I can see first hand on what's going on in that pan. Also thinking that over filling might of foamed the oil?

Yup.  Run it with 10 quarts and see what happens....

Sounds like when I was drag racing as I would come out of the wet box at 5500 and slow to a stop it would drop. I bought a oil pan with a trap door in it. So as you went forward the door closed and kept the oil by the pickup.  Not sure what's out there for boats that have that but I'm putting one on the small block I'm putting in mine.  I also had the same pan on my 4x4 crawler and it never droped oil Presser, going up or down sand dunes.

I decided to go with a three quart accusump system. I'm hoping that does the trick. Installed it today going to test it tomorrow.
