Title: Rail vs. 4 Point Mount
Post by: Grimpala on January 07, 2020, 10:31:11 AM
Currently have a 4 point mount in my Rogers, what are the pros/cons to running a rail mount setup?

Most people just want to update the look or upgrade from a 3-point.

Some of the benefits include:

* Ease of engine removal and reinstallation

* Can support multiple engine locations for easy center of gravity (COG) manipulation

* Can be easier to mount accessories such as external or dry sump oil pumps

* More mounting options with custom motor plates.

I never really thought much of the fact that I have a 3 point mount.  Figured it was just a sign of the times and no benefit to switch... now I’m wondering, should I upgrade to a rail since I’m going from a passenger car 460 with 320HP to a 500HP motor?

I am doing this conversion now due to a big increase in HP.  I am having issues with exhaust fitment (logs hitting rear motor plate) as well as the mechanical fuel pump hitting the front motor plate.  These are small issues you might have when you make a change like this.

I think another benefit of a rail kit is that it spreads out the stress of the motor across the stringer vs just at one or two points.

I think the only real cons are the expense and setting it up for the first time like Tahoe said.

They definitely look cool! Especially custom machined and coated.
