The only thing I'm worried about is that I'm using a river rock grate right now, so that offers up some shallow bottom idling protection.
If I move to the loader then that protection is gone. Not sure how critical that is for beaching at Havasu & Needles etc.
I guess just something to think about if going to spend $$$ on blueprinting & rebuilding a pump.

I have the same loader posted at the beginning of the thread. It's not as wide open as you would think. I've idled and ran the boat on plane through some sketchy spots (not on purpose) and don't have a single mark on my impeller.
Something to keep in mind when installing a loader. There is a tremendous amount of force on the loader when the boat is under way. If bolts break, bolts backed out, or the loader itself cracks and breaks the boat can flip or sink. The way I understand it is the loader should be thru-bolted with 5/16" black oxide hardware and nylock nuts on the back.
Just to freak you guys out a little...This was my loader when I purchased the boat. All four bolts were loose and the loader was hanging on by...wait for it...literally a thread. All I can say is I'm glad I found that before putting the boat in the water.
