River safty regulations, Rules and Guidelines ?

I'm gonna finally be finishing this project, "project spend all of my money and extra time". it's going to draw a lot of unwanted attention from Jonn'y law. I want to be up on all the current laws, rules, and regulations. I know you have to have a life jacket for each person on the boat. a air horn, flair kit =gun and water flairs. Un sure on how many throw cushion's.

Do I need a fire extinguisher by law?
Do I have to run water with the exhaust pictured bellow? the do have some what mufflers and soposably are 98 decible legal.
I know the sun up to sun down rule without a bow light or stern light pole.
Filling fuel with gas cans while the boat is in the water, Against the law?
have paddles but are they required?
Definitely have a tow strap, probably not required.
Any other things i need to know about?
Safety tips will help as well. This is mainly for the Colorado river. Parker and lower!

One throwable, the flare kit is for offshore only, just to add, it don't have to be a law for me to consider it required, basic tools including a good flashlight and a first aid kit...

Absolutely, maybe even two. Make sure they're charged also.

The exhaust type does not determin whether they are dry or not, most lakes prohibit dry exhaust no matter what, rivers are hit and miss. I think it depends on sound restrictions of the park you're at.

A paddling device, not necissarily an oar (water ski always worked for me).

If you are going to be driving the boat over 75-80 MPH, Lifeline jacket (not required, but highly recommended) for everyone in the boat. I will not bend on this one...

Life line jacket's on the way. $$ geese where does it end. Still got to get my 55 drum of 110 and 30 lbs of nitrous.

Guess Ill break down and get the extinguisher halon one. $ with the billet mount of course.

Pretty much all of the above! X2, cept I have 4 extinguishers on the Moo (1 required). Didn't know about the vests and lifeline thingy, not even real sure what the life line is, (Engine cutoff tied to your vest?). But I am definately on or over Glenn's threshold on this one. Though I don't do it very often.

On the sound level, never had any problems with open headers, water injected. Now, two guys at Big River had non-injected zoomies with huge blowers on their pickleforks and noone seemed to mind, sooo, I guess it's relative to where you go. But on the letter of the law, my deisel truck would prolly not pass that test.

life line is the company that makes jackets for racing. there kevlar sp and there $ but the way to go. they have one's with pairchutes, sp on the back. giong with the kill switch thingy ma bobber 2. yea didnt think the exhaust would be a issue. Ive seen all kinds of no water set ups out there.

For the record (and Ray

) a Lifeline is a very high quality life jacked rated at a very high rate of speed in case stuff happens, they typically have leg straps (commonly reffered to as crotch straps) and can be bought in a huge range of options depending on what you intend (or not intend) to do with it. I have a 13 Year old Lifeline (it was only two years old when I bought it) that cost over $450 used (recertified) and I do believe it has saved my ass twice....worth every penny...You should be able to find one for $350 or so, I can't remember what the recert. costs, but it's under $100 if no repairs have to be made.

A standard life vest is typically good for 70 MPH or so before they either come off or catch the water causing more harm than good.

It is not a purchase to be taken lightly, make sure it fits good/great and get them recertified if it is put to the test...

As a side note, a helmet should be worn at speeds exceeding 90 MPH, I have seen people run without helmets above that speed, but IMHO taking a huge chance (besides, a full face helmet provides some extra comfort from the noise and your vision is greatly improved).

Don't think I need a fuel cut off with fuel injection. Ill have a cut off switch teather cord that connects to the life jacket and it kills the ingnition
