geese where do I start. Ive had some really bad luck lately. My boat is down (me), my truck smashed (gf), my sand car is broke(brother). At first I thought I spun a rod bearing because my pump started flooding the back of my boat and the motor sucked in water Either from the valve (home depot) I had connected to the oil pan and a a-n hose ran to the drain hole the ease oil changes, or from the dip stick tube. I shut the thing down instantly after i heard what sounded like a dead cilinder or rod bearing. floated 2 hours back to lost lake and when I pulled the motor when I got home I found all kinds of things wrong. I though I had this thing perfect, I really did. When I pulled the valve covers I noticed a push rod pounded to hell and slight damage to the shaft mount rocker, roller lifter took a pounding to. I realized this could have been the previous trip witch I could have prevented. I was doing some data logging at elsoner to fine tune the afr. on one pass the pump got out of the water and the motor reved out to 9500 rpm, Didnt relize it untill i hooked the logger up to the lap top at the end of the day. The boat had no symtoms of any damage when I put it on the trailer. Checked the oil and it was like new.The ecu is not fast enough so I should have had a module in the msd box, lesson learned, thought it was all good for the river, should have pulled the valve covers to be safe :banghead:nother lesson learned
At lost lake after a few rides the pump started leaking water from all over and at the same time Thats when I heard the dead cilinder. It happend fast. all of the sudden the boat was filling up with water fast. After removing the motor I noticed all the intake bolts/ studs on the pump were loose and one was missing. the hand held cover has stains on it like its been leaking black shiz. The intake and shoe have tiny cracks underneath the bottom of the hull al around the intake where the glass and metal meet.
Back to the motor, I pulled 2 rod caps and a main cap where the push rod was damaged last night. the bearings are fine. the cam looks like it needs to be buffed but salvage_able sp. The back sides of the probe pistons look brand new same as the h-beam rods. valve's look ok. cilinder walls look great aside from a bit of rusty oil-water but wipes rite off, not stained. gonna pull the heads tonight along with all the rod caps and mains. I'm crossing my fingers. The oil came out of the pan grey and milky not the clear-brown before I left for the weekend. but I did not find any chunks of metal just very fine particiles sp. tonight ill post pictures and details of the rest. Ill ned advice on the pump, and dont unerstand what happend there. Its a built pump by GS marine with the works. I already have a bigger cam and better lifters top drop in. I Hope I can buy just one rocker, they were 1200$ for the set. If the pistons are damaged im considering going to e85 or pump gas. f-race fuel, was dropping 6-700$ a weekend. If not i want to de tune to 91 octane.
How do I de-tune to 91 with 12-1 comp with out swaping pistons. Is it possible. can I cc the heads or does that cost more than a set of pistons. can I run a thick head gasket? Hears my story what do you think?
