Running engine with pump disconnected

Just finished my boat project and now it’s time to break in the engine which I’ll do on the trailer. I plan on disconnecting the driveline so I’m not turning the pump dry during break in. The problem here is that the driveline isn’t really a driveline other than turn buckles on both sides of the connecting plates. The connecting plates butt up against each other with very little slack. I can’t see running the engine with a u joint flopping around plus flopping around right next to the part that goes to the pump. What are my options here? Hope I described the dilemma good enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unbolt it from the flywheel side and slide it back into the pump. There should still be two bolts holding the flywheel just don't get crazy with the RPM's and you should be fine.

Ya mind e was right as well put it will move back some not much but some and if it don't you might have a bigger problem on your hands but I still would take it from flywell and those other four bolts and it will come right on out then there plenty of room
