Running hot!

Just took out the boat for a run and it uis running at almost 240 temp, lesss when gassed, say about 215, but still hot..? Nothing feels to touch or indicates that there is an overheat. I did pull 12ft of tow rope from the hand hole cover recently, and the impeelor etc all looks good. Any suggeestions? Supposed to be off for the weekend tomorrow, and yes, with the bota, and yes, at a lake..

Don't know what it used to run for temp wise but the rise in air temp along with water temps will make it run hotter... I would try adjusting your gate valve just a bit.. shouldn't take but a 1\2 to 1 full turn... Set it so you are about 185-190 at idle.. makes your cruise temp around 160-170...This is only assuming you don't have any mechanical issues...

Thanks. So to let more water into the engine. I was at about 160 before the winter then just now its been high. can't think of anything mechanical that may have caused the relatively sudden spike?

Can you see your dump line??? Is water coming out?? I know it's a little tuff to see with some types of exaust set ups. I recently discovered I'm not flowing any water at idle, however my gate valve off the jet was 3/4 shut

Ok, not sure on the dump line? The hose connector off the jet connects to a "T" and then off to the headers. I do not see where the water dumps..?

Pics are always helpful

You have to have an exit for the water or it will not flow and the engine will get hot.

Pics are needed, but I hope you're not describing that all the exit water is routed to the headers! (I have pics of the results of someone who did that on a brand new 460 I'm rebuilding right now.)

Look on the back of the boat.. there should be a metal trim ring with a hole in it. On my boat it is about even with the top of the jet and set off to the side about 6 inchs.. When the boat is running the jet will pump water into the block and it will exit out of this hole.. Make sure you have a good amount of water flowing out here...
