Silverado 1500 Ignition Problem
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:21:30 AM »
My kids 2000 Silverado needed a new steering column. Picked one up at a buddies wrecking yard in Fontana that was in great shape. Done deal. Now the stupid thing won't start. We tried leaving the ignition on for a few minutes in the "on" position so that it would "learn" the code. That did not work. Anybody know about the security system on these ignitions? We need this truck on the road. Thanks.

Finally got it! ;D The owner of the wrecking yard came by the house and spent about 2 hours with my kid and got it going (I could not be here). It turns out that there must have been a model year change in the wiring between the old/new column. They switched out the wiring harness and used the one from the old column and got it to run.
If anyone in the so cal area needs parts for late model trucks see Ron at Walker 400. He is a great guy and amazingly helpful.
