Stuck Fuel Pump Rod

So we decided to go with an electric fuel pump on Bebos Crusader, but the fuel pump rod won't come out. We put a little grease on it to hold it in when we installed it. Any suggestions? BBC BTW.

Have you tried to turn the motor over to see if the eccentric will push it out a little?

i wonder if a valve lapping tool has a small enough suction cup to latch onto that puppy? Your a lucky man to not have to worry about trying to hold that rod while installing a mechanical pump...so why was there a decision to goto an electric pump anyway?

I don't think it would hurt anything if you left it in there. Cant you grab the end with some needle nose?

Leave it there, it wont hurt anything, just fills a hole, gravity will keep it clear from the camshaft......

Another plus is that you will always have it there in case you need to go mechanical.

If you actually must get it out, try a rare earth magnet, they are stupid strong, do it on a hot day or heat the front area of the block with a heat gun.....

Not sure about big block w/o looking. but the small blocks have a bolt hole in the front that used to be used for motor mounts years ago that runs right into the feul pump rod hole. You can use a bolt to hold the rod up but not tto tight to knick th shaft. That bolt hole is also a good place for a leak if left open. So it is possible to run a bolt right into the shaft on small blocks anyway.

Big blocks no haveeee, I don't know why. $:-\$

On a big block, the push rod comes out through a 3/8" pipe plugged hole on the bottom of the fuel pump boss..Many times if the rod is older, the very top of the shaft gets a little bit mushroomed and are difficult to remove if the cam is installed....

We decided to go with an electric fuel pump because the mechanical gets in the way of the engine plate. I think we will pull the plugs, turn the engine sideways and try turning the engine over and see if the eccentric helps us out as our first option.
