I am replacing my fuel lines coming from each tank. Each tank has a ball valve. After the valve, there is a check valve. Can I remove the check valve? I figured it would increase flow if i did. I am running a Clay Smith pump with 3/8 line. I run one tank at a time. Thanks!

Just curious but, unless you're starving for fuel, why do you want to increase flow??? Not gonna make a difference once the bowls are full....... right??

Not sure if it is starving. I dont want it to, though. Plus i will be going to a 496 with a 950 soon. I'm just wondering if there is a good reason to leave them in, I guess.

Family boat....... leave them in.....

At minimum, replace them with a ball valve that can be accessed in a emergency. Still say leave them in.

I dont know why a boat would have them. I assume a safety feature that I just can't think of.

They are to prevent a siphon.

Visualise what would happen if you cut the fuel line at the bottom of the bilge and let it lay low while open.

It would siphon fuel from the tank until it was empty. Two potential outcomes, one, the automatic bilge pump comes on potentially putting all that fuel in the lake/river, two, you hit the key causing a spark and you immediately meet your maker.

Those valves have been proven to flow quite well, about 85% of an open fitting.

Use the brass ones though. Aluminum ones tend to get stuck easier with today's fuels.
