Transom wiring?
« on: January 14, 2016, 03:08:27 PM »
I need to fabricate a mount that would hold the engine/gauge wiring
, ignition box, terminal strips, ignition kill switch, gas tank selector valve etc. to the transom. I'm thinking and aluminum or plexiglass plate to fit the transom shape. Rubber feet to insulated. I'd like a minimum of screw holes in the transom. Any  pictures perhaps, any thoughts or ideas appreciate it. Thnx!

Mount off the stringers and you will not have to screw up your transom.

If you must have it mounted on the transom, I would strongly suggest mounting it off of existing through-bolted holes such as the transom plate(s) or swim step(s).  Mounting items, with substantial mass, with wood screws into the transom eventually always loosen up.

Thanks gents. Not much in the way of stringers. It's kind of compact down there. Still have bilge pump, header dump, enjin pressure  dump to mount. The Headers would get pretty hot down there for anything electrical. The transom mount may be my only alternative.

As suggested... I used the bolts from swim step. You could also glue/glass a piece of wood to trans an then attach a thin plate of SS or aluminum over it to bolt your stuff on.

Sorry for the delay.  I'd like a pic of your completed wireing if you don't mind. Loo ks bitch'n, whole boat does, showes real creativity. And Flusher, yep, redoing mine slowly, but surely.  Hehehe.

I know it's not wiring but I used the existing swim step holes and studs to attach some stainless brackets I made to clean up my transom plumbing.
