Loctite freeze plugs?????
« on: May 27, 2014, 06:27:42 PM »
Is that a common practice???  I have 2 that leak bad and I'm trying to replace them but they won't come out the normal way.  I'm gonna have to pull this damn engine to get to them so I can see.  But I have a feeling that they are loctited in there.

Expension plugs bro. I had one of my freeze plugs pop out and ran an expension plug. Those things will last you for years or till you have time to yank the motor out and slap in all new plugs.

Loctite on a freeze...never heard of it. Imo it's not gonna work. Loctite from what I've heard and experienced only works o. Threaded parts.

Yeah locktight is an anaerobic compound ( means dries without air) thats not what you want to use instead use aviation form a gasket it works great on freeze plugs.

Make sure there are no burrs and use permatex sealant.  You want it to be sealed but not stuck in the hole. Pound em in straight all the way.

Thanks for the installation tips fellas.  I'm gonna pull this motor so I can see and hopefully remove them.

I always just coat them with a light coat of ultra black or Toyota FIPG sealant....never had one come out.  Forget those rubber pieces of shit...those are for getting by until you can fixit right
