I just set up true TDC on my new motor for my '56 Chevy and when I checked the balancer and timing tab I planed to use I found the pointer 8* off!!! I checked my Milodon gear drive covers pointer and it was off only about two degrees. I think Tom at JBP mentioned a Milodon cover out 6* a year or so ago. Point is, Most of you prolly arent running the timing you think you are. I highly recomend setting up a dead stop and checking true TDC when ever you get the chance.

Very true about the timing tabs. There is a lot to consider when timing any combo.

Several years ago, we ran a bbc 18*-20* inital timing, always ran great...Winter at 7500 ft, dont try this at bullhead in the summer.

There is a nice adj one fom jegs, I think.
Others ive made a new zero line on the balancer

i *ALWAYS* line up my 0 TDC on anything i build.

Me too. I know I put one motor in a boat last summer that got burnt up due to timing tab being wrong. Small block ford, had about three timing marks on it. Took out two pistons and burnt both head and block between cylinders......boat ran good. So yopu check 'em all the time K, have you ever found one that was "right on"?
