Water logs and cracks

So just how can i tell if they are cracked or not? I was cleaning the old gaskets off of them and i want to make sure they are good before i put them back on with the new motor. So is there a pressure test or something that you can do?

I looked but cant see chit. I know i blew a head gasket but it had ALOT of water in the pan.

What about the flappers? if they didnt fit right would that let water in the pipe? and then the motor.

I have allready replaced them a couple times due to my WOMAN'S jealouse x boyfriend but cant prove it.

what does that have to do with your logs being cracked?

yes, if the flappers arent sealing propperly and your risers (snails) arent that high, you will waterlock the engine and it will leak into the pan.

if you cant visibly see any cracks, i wouldnt worry about it.

Isn't that backwards? If I could see cracks in the logs or snails then I would worry about it.

no, you misread my question...you said you had to replace them a couple of times due to a jelous ex boyfriend....

why would a jealous ex boyfriend cause you to replace gaskets on your logs?

also, im not pissed, just confused.

It sounds to me like a jealous "X" might have pulled the old banana in the tail pipe trick or something to sabatoge (sp?) his boat.

Ok i can see why you are confused. It was actually a two part question, i guess i put them to close together.

I did not have to change the gaskets because of her "x" boyfriend it was the flappers. For some unknown reason just before i would get ready to take the boat out i found the flappers were cut off with a knife or something sharp. That is why i was asking if it would allow water into the block/motor.

Stupid question i know.

Ok back to the NOT GAY topic of flappers. I went and checked them just now, maybe this is why i had so mush water in the pan? I think im gonna go headers and plug them holes. No more worry's about flappers

dont look like its sealing and it is bent out instead of being flush.

Those flappers never seal, even when they're new. They don't need to seal either. They need to slow down the flow of water into the logs and that's about it. With bad sealing flappers and the proper hieght "snails" on the logs, you shouldn't get any water in the engine other than where it's supposed to be. The flappers on my Miller were a lot more bent than yours and it never gave me a problem. I want to see a side veiw picture of your logs and snails and also a rear picture of your transom so I can figure out how low the exhaust outlets are.

There is no motor in the boat to hook the logs to for height, unless a pic of them on the ground is good? I can do that now.

the ports on the transom look to be at a good height....they appear to be 1/2 in the water when the boat is at a standstill/idle.

you might want to pick up a pair of these....they arent pretty, but do the job better then the internal flappers.

also, the snails look to be at a decent hight.

you dont need an excuse to go to over transom headers...or even through transom headers......just do it

Those are going to sit below the water line which is fine with the snails you're running. My Miller was set-up real similar to your boat. You can clearly see in the pic those ugly flappers don't seal even when new, they aren't supposed to/don't need to seal completely. Flappers just slow the water flow down. Through transom headers aren't going to solve anything other than emptying your wallet, unless there is a problem with your logs and/or snails.

I remember reading somewhere that you pressure tested the engine, was that including the logs and snails?
