What is your favorite brand & type of intake gasket?
« on: May 31, 2015, 12:30:09 PM »
I am to the point where, if I want to learn something new, I have to forget something old.

With that being said, I can no longer remember the brand or where the intake gaskets that were in my engine were sourced the last time it went together.

There are some features that I really like, but can't find in any other brand.  These features include:
1.  Steel core entirely throughout.
2.  Raised o-ring-like seal around all port openings.
3.  Port dimensions 1.688 wide by 2.500 tall.  These dimensions fit my factory 188 ports exactly, all that I can find are either too wide or too tall.  They did have provisions for the extra two intake bolts centered and above the ports.

Any help identifying these gaskets would be greatly appreciated, however I think that they might be Honest George's and no longer available.

If you have a favorite intake gasket, please post up brand, part#, etc. and why you prefer them to others, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Joe

Here are the listings for Fel-Pro intake gaskets for big block Chevy.  So far, I am leaning towards the Fel-Pro 1275S3 because of its steel core laminate construction with Printoseal.  I do not see any Fel-Pro gaskets listed specifically for “marine” applications.  Is there a number that I am missing?  What is the difference between the Fel-Pro 1275S3 and a true “marine” rated gasket?

Fel-Pro 1275S3 is a steel core laminate composite intake gasket with Printoseal.  Port dimensions of 2.540 tall by 1.820 wide and are .060 thick.  These gaskets DO NOT have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

Fel-Pro 12523 is a composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.480 tall by 1.800 wide and are .060 thick.  They “...are designed to be replacements for stock-type intake gaskets. ... ideal for stock rebuilds as well as mild performance engines.”

Fel-Pro 1211 is a Printoseal composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.540 tall by 1.820 wide and are .060 thick.  These gaskets have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

Fel-Pro 1239 is a composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.540 tall by 1.820 wide and are .120 thick.  These gaskets have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

Fel-Pro 1274 is a composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.520 tall by 1.800 wide and are .060 thick.  These “...gaskets have Printoseal construction, which puts beads of special elastomers around the ports for extra sealing power. They also feature a non-metallic, rubber-fiber base material that resists gasoline and alcohol, while allowing engine builders to precision-trim around the intake ports.”  These gaskets have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

Fel-Pro 1275 is a composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.540 tall by 1.820 wide and are .060 thick.  These gaskets DO NOT have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

Fel-Pro 12755 is a composite style intake gasket with port dimensions of 2.540 tall by 1.820 wide and are .120 thick.  These gaskets DO NOT have provisions for the extra two bolt holes above the intake ports.

The only intake gasket that Summit Racing has specifically listed as a “marine” intake gasket is the Professional Products 53601.

Does anyone have any experience with this gasket?

Has anyone heard of or used Flatout Gaskets?  Summit Racing lists part number 8161 which are described as a Rubber/Steel construction with rectangular port dimensions of 2.550 tall by 1.850 wide and .080 thick.
