What Plug wires to get? BBC
« on: September 12, 2011, 02:32:18 PM »
I know, stupid question but I put this off too long and now I need to get some wires ASAP :-[. I Have a BBC 454 w/ HEI. I need wires that have 90deg at both ends and have enough reach to go below the headers (basset). My question is, are there and plug wire sets I can purchase at my local autozone, kragen, napa etc... I really don't want to mess with the universals...

Thanks in advance,
JAmes

pepboys.  msd wires.

comes with 90* boots and u trim them to length and crimp the ends on with the supplied tool.  done deal.  leave em a little long so they dont burn on the pipes.

I ran MSD wires for several years with no problems.

The universals are not that difficult to assemble

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

The universals are not that tough, but they sure look nice if you take the time to get them right.  I work from the front cylinders and then match the path of the next one down the line.  I use MSD 8.5mm on most engines.

universals are your best bet, they just take time to in stall. buy a good criping tool dont just use regular pliers. they will never hold right. good luck!

Can't miss with a set of Taylor's.

Best wires I have ever used are Jacobs ignition with the ceramic boots, hard to find..  http://www.summitracing.com/parts/JAC-4830400/

Taylor's have been on the last three boats I built...  http://www.taylorvertex.com/Products/index.cgi/SparkPlugSets

If I had to get it running by morning, Napa carries Belden  http://www.napaechlin.com/NAPA++Belden-Wire+and+Cable/Content.aspx

Good hunting..

Thanks for all the input. I know the universals are probably the best and look real nice if done right. Im not afraid to do them, I installed them on a Torino I used to own... there just time consuming. Whatever is on there now are not uni's. They fit perfect... only problem is they have no name on them and no one remembers where they were purchased :banghead: I'll probably end up getting the MSD's, im running out of time to play the matching game.

I agree with GT about the Taylors. That's a set you can't go wrong with. These are my current wires:
