change one thing and you will have to change five others, lol
put it in the boat then fab from there so you dont have to fock up the interior
-
mount it off the back. put a pully at the drive yoke and mount her to a bracket off the bell housing.

not a bad idea... i wonder how much work it would be to somehow integrate my existing pulley onto the PTO and weld em together... hmm. it would be nice to have one less thing spinning around next to people...

Use an Optima marine battery, and float test the alternator. Mine has run for 2 days, and 50+ gallons of fuel WITHOUT an alt. HEI works till ~9 volts, ask me how I know ;D

Use an Optima marine battery
For what, an anchor? Optima batteries are junk.

I have a marine deep cycle for a radio then I'm going to use a small odyssey batter for starting. I don't want 2 heavy batteries though.

I high-mounted mine with some home-brew brackets that I saw-cut from aluminum plate and aluminum bar stock. I don't like electrical stuff down in the bilge if I can help it.
If you want pics, let me know and I'll post some in a week or so when I get back in town at my home computer.

Just outta curiosity...why is the engine out of you boat? Did you do a rebuild on it?

when i bought the boat it came with a longblock. i had no clue of the condition of it. so i tore into it, everything checked out fine, new gaskets, new timing cover, stripped and painted the block since it had some rough spots, converting to a 4 point mount, etc...
oh and i tossed some full length douglas fir stringers just for shits and giggles since i took a fatty for a ride and they broke the seat bases i had fiberglassed to the bottom.

Had this conversation before! Might have been what made Proppy do his the way he did, really. Anyway, MANY cars, I still have one here ('92 Olds Cutlass Supreme International, now RJ's car) with a transverse mounted V6 in it where the alternator is completely under the car on the very bottom, in the back, between the firewall, the exhaust manifold, the steering rack and the engine. It is a GM car made in the 100,000's (same as the Lumina Z-34, and the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the 3.4 DOHC engine). IF that thing can sustain the rain, road dirt, snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc.........and it has..........what's the problem with a little water? I'm sure there are countless other cars with the same setup.
