pressed for space and how to get the alternator to align up properly... any suggestions?  switched to plate mounts and low mount where it was before is out of the question.  cant go too far forward ill hit my seats... cant mount it on the passenger side the manifold is in the way...

mount it off the back. put a pully at the drive yoke  and mount her to a bracket off the bell housing.

Proppy did it with his old Eliminator.......digging the pic up.......

Use an Optima marine battery, and float test the alternator. Mine has run for 2 days, and 50+ gallons of fuel WITHOUT an alt. HEI works till ~9 volts, ask me how I know

For what, an anchor?  Optima batteries are  junk.

I have a marine deep cycle for a radio then I'm going to use a small odyssey batter for starting. I don't want 2 heavy batteries though.

Just outta curiosity...why is the engine out of you boat? Did you do a rebuild on it?

I high-mounted mine with some home-brew brackets that I saw-cut from aluminum plate and aluminum bar stock.  I don't like electrical stuff down in the bilge if I can help it.

Had this conversation before! Might have been what made Proppy do his the way he did, really. Anyway, MANY cars, I still have one here ('92 Olds Cutlass Supreme International, now RJ's car) with a transverse mounted V6 in it where the alternator is completely under the car on the very bottom, in the back, between the firewall, the exhaust manifold, the steering rack and the engine. It is a GM car made in the 100,000's (same as the Lumina Z-34, and the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the 3.4 DOHC engine). IF that thing can sustain the rain, road dirt, snow, sleet, freezing rain, etc.........and it has..........what's the problem with a little water? I'm sure there are countless other cars with the same setup.
