Hey GT, I was reading your posts in the thread about water pressure...you were pretty adamant on NOT using a tstat...in THIS post, what makes THIS system any different than what that jet fever guy was trying to argue?? Just tryin to learn something..

The thermostat kits you can buy on the aftermarket are only a spring to Pop-off when pressure gets to a certain point and a thermostat that closes off water flow from the engine. With a setup like this, the water pump circulates the water within the engine making the water temperature pretty darn consistent throughout the entire system. Whereas the regular kits make the water "stop" in the motor allowing the engine to heat soak all over the block and heads. I have seen the motor temps have a 40*F+ difference running the "marine" kits. the rear cylinders always run really hot and when they puke, it will be the rear two cylinders that have an issue...
And FWIW, if the engine is machined correctly for a "Jet" application, thermostatic control is simply not necessary. If you want to build a motor with much tighter tolerances, a stat is almost a necessity. You do have to keep any eye, or simply control the oil temperature however.
