Lose the Panther.  I would also lower the your RPM target and get your max HP at a lower RPM.

Its been over 10 years since I worked for a speed shop so I'm not going to give any specific grinds, but when you're getting ready to deside, narrow it down to a coupled based on the rpm range you want it to work in and then choose the smaller grind.  Most people will over-cam because they don't know any better.  In a jet boat engine you can run a cam with a closer lobe seperation (106-108 degree = more overlap = rougher idle) because you don't have vacuum accessories and having a narrower power band isn't as important as it would be in a street vehicle.

I don't know much about the panther pump, will it take being spun to 5800-6000rpm?  If not there is no reason to build the engine to make H/P in that range.

I'm sure you'll get some good information from some of the other owners/builders on this site.

Good luck

get the rpms LOWER. i'm not to shure about your pump, which is'nt vary popular, & is more expensive for parts., but a berk starts overheating after 5500. berks are everywhere( parts & acc.) are cheeper than any other pump. also if you go berk & want your new motor to hook up, get at least an AA impeler. & shoot for a rpm of 5500. you'll fly. good luck!!!
