So a lil update do not need engine anymore last night i drove to madera ranchos and bought a fresh 429 built at advance motors in fresno ca came with receipts and a brand new edelbrock carb 750 manual choke and a mallory billet electronic dizzy a new performer 460 intake manifold brand new hv oil pump and all reciepts from jegs and summit so with all that i only paid a whopping 800 bucks total so i scored ! but need to change the engine over to forged pistons and marine cam ,i need to buy a marine oil pan for a bbf 460 so pm me if u have one available i have cash !!! also wanna buy some nice logs and snails cause i have a set of h2985 hardin marine center rise manifolds and cannot figure them out im thinking im supposed to plumb them like a set of headers almost with a gate valve to control water flow to them, then i was thinking the logs are better cause they kinda pre-heat the water before entering the block im still researching it all so i will figure it out!!!anyone that has info for me look in the project section im gonna start a thread !!!

H-2985: Berkeley Risers:    Water entering the bottom of the engine through the timing cover, the water that exits the top of the engine at the intake manifold goes left and right to the bottom of each manifold through one port (the additional port on the ex manifold is blocked off).  If the risers have the correct gasket, the water that enters the bottom of the exhaust manifolds will fill and transfer to the riser (jacket to jacket) then exit into the exhaust hose internally.

sweet someone familiar with these manifolds so now im excited i have been  all alone on this boat so joining this forum is turning into a great idea (i have been on one other forum that really helped on a civic turbo build)     now its time for summer toys lol      so rivertard   thanks for helping me out i appreciate it allot     so if i run the water like your saying do i need a pressure relief at the pump still or is this open flow ?   and should i get the hardin marine thermostat kit for 259 i have read both positive and negative on this kit ? also should i run the high flow oil pump and the front sump oil pan i already have or should i get a marine pan with a windage tray?  the heads have mild porting on intake and exhaust and new valves stock size ! nothing too crazy at all but super fresh engine just looking to get on the water so i can build the first 460 i got with the boat.

In a jet boat the HV oil pump is almost always the way to go. A rear sump jet boat pan is better than the front pump passenger car oil pan.  Depending on which oil pump is in the engine, you might need to get a new oil pump to work in conjunction with the rear sump jet boat pan (very likely).

Your engine looks to be a very mild powered 429, not the greatest choice for a jet boat but certainly usable. You need to determine which factory iron heads you have because if they are D2VEs then your engine will be very detonation prone in the jet boat--especially with that EdelBROCK carb.  If tuned correctly, the cast pistons will be fine in that mild-mannered build. Upgrading your current to forged pistons will cost perhaps $1000 total when all is said and done and the engine is back in your boat.  Incidentally, once again you need determine which heads you have before you buy pistons.   The cylinder head casting number is on the outside of the head, along the valve cover mounting rail, and between the 3rd and 4th exhaust ports...might be C9VE, or D2VE or D3VE, etc.

I wanna get a good oil pan for sure i know oil flow is key to the bottom end ,i wish i could get a used one though really dont have 400 for a pan right now (my cash is at 800 left to get on the lake lol) The heads read dove -c  .I am not gonna run the edelbrock carburater either i have a holley 750 vacuum sec carb that has a fresh rebuild just gonna have to change the jets im sure but from my experience holley leads edelbrock for sure never liked edelbrock carbs!  i am gonna use the mallory distributor though because its a mechanical advance .i really wish i had a build sheet from the 429 but i only have receipts for the build so really i have no idea what its about! i know the dove heads are the most desirable haha    and i can see that the  pistons are cast and i know it has stamped steel rocker arms and trick flow pushrods from the reciepts ,      i am paranoid about the main bearings and the rod bearings though since the engine has been sitting for two years since the build is the assembly lube still there or should i pull the mains and re-lube it all?

here is a pic of the casting number on my heads !  im excited to find them saying dove-c     are these the desired heads or ?    and what pistons are u thinking  i should get?  also lakesonly if i run these cast pistons do u think the pistons are gonna be too tight in the cylinders since it was machined to be used for the street ? like i have read !  im definately new to all this so i dont wanna just go with what i have read and run with it i want some people like all of u that have been there and done that !also does anyone live near visalia ca that help me tune my engine at the lake i have cash for your time! again thanks alott to everyone helping me out i really appreciate it!!!!

If you use the front sump pan then it MUST be a Cobrajet oil pan with the anti-slosh baffle. A regular passenger car pan will allow the oil in the front sump to run to the rear of the pan when you stab the throttle in your jet boat...and the engine will be starved of oil.

The early-style (C8VE/C9VE/D0VE) heads are nice.  If the engine has an OEM style cast flat top pistons then you are at about 10.5:1 compression ratio so even 91 octane premium pump gas is inadequate and jet the Holley rich and work your way down (better to foul plugs than to melt pistons).  I wouldn't worry too much about the clearances in the rebuilt engine but I think it would be wise to look at the bearings to see if they are passenger car style half-grooved main bearings or a 3/4-groove or full-groove main gearing. The half-grooved bearings are not recommended for sustained 5000 rpm.

I am in SoCal quite regularly and will be going to El Mirage to watch the Dry Lakes car run on May 26-27. Maybe I can stop by Visalia that week (a day or two before or after the race).

So i just ordered a jet marine oil pan from armandos super pumped to get it,he said he could build it in a week for me since he has one ahead of me! so know i need a m84d hv oil pump to go with it ! The only thing that bothers me is that everyone is always saying in a jet boat they run to cool to burn off the moisture in the crankcase !I cant let this one slide i wish there was a way for no-water to get in my oil ever!!!! I am looking at the hardin marine thermostat kit for $259 but some people are saying there garbage and some say there the only way to go to keep the proper temperature ?    i am gonna run a 5/8 hard line from the pump  to a gate valve to a pressure relief tee that dumps overboard and   then a  tee and run  those two lines into the water pump block off cover then out the intake manifold to my h-2985 riser manifolds    or should i get the harmin marine t stat kit for ford 429/460?    i am looking to set up my boat for long term     do not want any hill billy rigging like it was when i purchased the boat from some dumb teenagers that was my first mistake in all of this but i am having a blast fixing all there damage haha     when i took it to the lake thinking it was ready to run like they said i fired her up and cruised out the no wake zone heading to our camp at lake kaweah   was cruising at 2200 rpms then i got on it a lil more at maybe 3400 and it blew the rubber hose off the pump that went to a gas line style ball valve no pressure relief so it was taking on water so i put the hose back on the pump tightened the hose clamp real good and thought i was okay but then my motor wouldnt get above 2000 rpms without sneezing hard and popping so i cruised super slow got to some shore and looked at everything couldnt see anything different so i just wanted to get to my camp were my tools were cruised over at 1000 rpm got there turned her off and parked her  so i was done after that but i still had to get her back to the dock so i at dusk i cruised her back at 1500 rpm and she was doing better i thought so i got on her a lil againup to like 3000 rpm and it blew the hose off the pump again but this time it split the hose open so i had to hold my finger on the pump to stop the water from coming in the boat and the other hand i pulled the hose off the bilge and cut a piece off so i could put it between the pump and the gate got it all back together and was heading to the dock at maybe 2000 rpm so i did not blow the hose again and before i got to the dock my motor started screaming at me hard and blowing oil out the valve covers so i killed it as fast as i could turn the key got towed by a js550sx stand up hahaha with the kid saying thats why i would never buy a jetboat haha whatever i said laughing with him and all that started this never ending money spending haha so my eleven hundred dollar score (i thought ) turned into a 3,000 boat and still have to buy some more stuff so thats my story bad grammar and all lol so know all i do is read and read and search forums for advice and spend money so hopefully i can cruise this baby at the lake without problems at least for a little while hopefully
