Hey guys and gals, the wife and I are trying to make the trip this weekend, just curious about some of the details.

Where is everyone launching and is there a meet up spot?

I think we'll be heading out Friday afternoon, staying at one of the hotels in town, spending the day on the water with you guys Saturday and unfortunately heading for home Saturday evening (we have a prior engagement on Sunday).

awesome you guys are thinking about coming - it was good meeting you guys at the long beach races.

Here is some info for first timers:

Here is a map of where the launch ramp is and the cove up river we normally hang out....

The park is just down the hill from the Big River Inn, if you google map search "Big River Community Services District", it will take you right there. Once you find the park entrance, you go down the hill, and turn right after the toll booth ($25/day to launch - I'm STILL working on a better deal). We use the ramp all the way down at the end on the south side of the park.

The cove we hang out in is out of the current, but its always good to have a good anchor with you. The current is strong on this stretch of the river. Dont try to launch/retrieve by yourself, there is always plenty of us around willing to help.

Awesome, thanks Brad!

I'm really looking forward to hanging out with all of you guys.

I've got a mushroom type anchor but I might pick up one of those triangle anchors from West Marine.

Dont waste your money - invest in a box anchor, you wont regret it.

Saaammmyyyyyyyy !   I think we are in.  ::)
What's that make it now 8 boats ?  I somehow think there will be a lot more than that at this party.
I know Hallett Dave has been warming up for Dumas.

But I don't think I'll be ordering take out at the Cantina though.   LMAO   :P
Oh never mind, I better go work on the boat.
See you at BR Inn

Best get it soon.  That beach in front of BR will definitely test your anchor's ability to, well uhh anchor.   ;)

Don't waste the space bringing the "shroom", it won't help you here.

Now, if you are serious about anchoring your float, I'd recommend an old diesel crank or a cylinder head that you don't mind getting wet.

Hahaha...I once used 2 flat head Ford V8 blocks to anchor a free floating dock out by the buoy line at a lake house in Elsinore a bunch of us used to hang out at.

I think there are s, m, and lg.  Pretty sure I have the medium one, but it is one heavy mo fo and overkill for a small boat in most conditions.

They have a baby, small, medium and large.  I have a small now and hoping it will work at Big River.  It has worked good every where else so far.  They say it is good for 20' but not real sure about different conditions. Make sure you get about 6' of chain and then go to rope and it will set a lot better.

Most guys are using them in the current  at Big River Park and they hold fine.
We even hook 2 or 3 boats together on one anchor with no problems, just make sure they're set good !
We have the small for our 19' tunnel and Dave uses the same for his Hallett mini day.

For this particular trip most of the time is spent either on a sand bar, protected cove or regular bar anyways.   LOL

I heard that the small will hold a 26' in the current....
That's what mine is and I've had 3 boats tied to it in the current.
