Doc here from Elsinore with the latest on the cove water level. The water is 5 feet deep in the middle and the entry is closing so fast there can be no side my side racing. Unless we get rain soon we will have to do this at the private beach next to Cranes or at Weekend Paradise. There should be a good turn out of Flat Bottoms for the Jan 1 Flat bottom Reggata at Weekend Paradise as well.

Well why don't you guys explain for us newbies why it's held on that date?
I've heard of Tom Papp and understand he was a guru and legendary for helping anyone who came to him, but I for one don't know why the memorial is in the winter. Is it his birthday or passing or something that was on that date?

A group of his friends decided to go to the lake to remember him and what not a few weeks after his passing. I know the first one was about 10 or 15 boats

Tom was one of those guys that would drop everything to help you out or answer your questions, and it didn't matter if you were a long time customer or you just walked in of the street, he was a wealth of knowledge in the boating community. I was fortunate to know Tom for just a few short years before the boating community lost this legend on January 1st of 2007. This gathering started out as hand full of guys from the shop that got together to run the boats that Tom built or worked on and to share the stories that we all had of Tom Papp and Tom Papp Racing "The Home Of The Fast Guys" I'm sure there are guys on here that knew him better than I but that's the short reason behind this gathering.

I've heard that the guys that started this at one point thought of moving the gathering to just the parking lot because of the amount of people showing up and acting like idiots. This isn't a race event, it's a remembrance, I'm new to this and never knew Tom, but I would tow my boat out there and never put it in the water out of respect to be a part of it this year. Your thoughts...

I agree with Jordan " if people are coming together in your remembrance that speaks volumes as to the mans character . If it was the opposite way around what would that tell you??? I for one pledge not to be one of those idiots that everyone has been talking about. I don't think it's a question of who deserves to be there or not who knows the history and who does not". I am there to honor and pay respects to a man that was highly respected in the boating community . I hope to see some of my SCJB people , that would just be an added bonus 👍😎

It is the 9th. It was changed to the second weekend because it interferes with the new year weekend ever few years and we changed it so people could be out of town and such with family.
Everyone is welcome, just please self police yourself and don't do stupid shit.
we had a group of about 10 boats the first year, we went and talked about Tommy, drank a couple beers and headed back to the trailers. Its a day to remember a guy that was very passionate about what he did. Tommy would stop what he was doing to help anyone that came by the shop. He would stay late to get you finished up. He was just a good person and loved boats.
It's kinda sad how the next few years went down with a bunch of dipshits doing stupid stuff. Most of the original guys don't even bother going anymore because the shit show it had become. I hope it continues for many more years. It gives me a chance to tip one for Tommy and hang out with friends and talk about and show off what we are all so passionate about. Our Boats. we would line up a few grudge matches and turn em loose, but then the ski boats would come out and go 4 wide going back and forth churning up the water and swamping all the boats parked. I could go on about all the shit that went south, but lets just forget all that and just remember why we do this. To remember Tommy and our sport.

Its normally at Elsinore west but there's not much water in the lagoon. Maybe we should go to the new ramp, LA Laguna they have a huge paved lot and a large ramp.....

I agree! Last year a few guys left because word was it was already raining at the ramp.... Those of us that stayed in the cove didn't see a drop, they got a little wet loading up. Not that we can all get in the cove this year👎
I launched at West Marina on Friday, only two other trailers in the parking lot. Good thing because it was pretty much a single lane of deep water in and out of lagoon.

One of the points that was made is even if it doesnt rain saturday, it will be full of trash floating in it. this lake is a run off lake...meaning all the shit in the gutters and washes in the area goes into this lake, which means there's going to be a ton of crap floating in the lake. This gives it a week for all the crap to wash ashore.

Please confirm the 16TH..........Rain in the afternoon and it's a maybe. Cold, maybe 65 if the sun is out. Lake came up 12" after the rains. I live on the lake and it is a lil green from the runoff.

Report from Lake Elsinore. There were 8 boats in the cove today. I little sprinkle here and there. I drove my truck down there and they all knew it is the 16th. They just had to get out there and celebrate. Looks like RAIN Friday so far. Hope for good weather. Let us know if there is a cancelation due to RAIN.

Just becareful cause it is against the law to drive in there. Also part of what you're driving on is a trail people use for walking, and bike riding. So watch out for pedestrians and kids and dogs

Hell yeah! Can't wait either. Over the last week or so I've made the decision though not to rush the TX together though. River season is coming up fast and I want to do this boat legit so I'm gonna take my time and when it's done it's done. Then I'll do the pump and engine swap from my old boat. Until then I'm gonna leave my ol girl battle ready so I can make the first events this season! I've started late the last two seasons and its sucked lol
