I am putting new resin on the floor of my boat since I have the carpet and upholstery up.  What is the best resin to use and do I need cloth?  Also anyone have steps on how to do it so I don't mess anything up?  Thanks all!

I use the west systems 105 epoxy resin. It's a little pricey but stronger than polyester resin.
The only thing with epoxy resin is you can't use fiberglass mat. You can only use fiberglass cloth. The mat has something in it that is only activated with polyester resin.

Usually only the edges of the floor are fiberglassed to the hull.
If the floor is in good shape, I would just lightly sand it to get the old glue and resin off, then mix a new batch of resin (epoxy and hardener) then spred it out over the floor with a plastic squeegie or a foam roller and let it set. If you want multiple coats, wait until it gets tacky before you add another coat.
Some people glass the entire floor but it adds weight and makes it more difficult to remove the floor later.

I would use resin research epoxy. It has uv inhibitors that west doesn't and it won't yellow out over time like the west. It's also less expensive and in my opinion a better resin. The reason you can't use it with matt is because it's not solvent based like pe or ve and will not eat up the binder in the matt.....you don't want to use matt anyway its heavy and leaves a bad finish. I would do a 4oz. surfboard layer then use additive f for a hot coat...it will lay down nice and you probably won't even have to sand to get a slick finish...my 2 cents.
