Ive heard alot of theorys but whats proven to gain mph smooth as possible or ?

I checked with a straight edge and mines not hooked is that the right way to check or was i told wrong? Ive never done and bottom prep on mine its a 73 anthony 18ft well 17.5 shallow v

When you say "smooth as possible" are you speaking of the actual ride surface?

Having things totally falt are not always a good thing, there are times when you have too little horsepower where a small hook is virtually required to keep the hull drivable.

That being said, smooth surface, no, dimpled, bumpy or even a coarsely sanded surface is best. Sounds dumb, but its all about surface tension.

The problem is, if the surface is too rough, it gets "slippery", meaning she wont react to steering too well either.

I have found that Speed Coat or even a very "orange peeley" paint is the way to go, on the aluminum stuff, some strategically orchestrated 80 grit polishing did the job.
