fiberglass repair pics
« on: July 29, 2007, 08:47:31 AM »
well i had this big as crack and it was time to repair it, i am by NO MEANS A PROFESSIONAL... just a hot boater that is too cheap to pay somebody else to do it, i can **** it up alot and redo it at least a dozen times before i use the money it would cost to send it to a professional.
first tape off the affected area

i took a 4" grinder and cut out the affected area

shot from inside

as you can see in this pic the transom wood is starting to go, but i dont have the time or energy to fix it now.

this is where pops made his own filler to plug that gaping hole.

we laid the 1st and 2nd layer on the inside and started plugging that gap in the corner

waiting for the first layer to kick so we can fill in the gap at the top

looks pretty ugly at this point and i was starting to have my doubts, but good old pops said to just be paitent oh yeah we laid 2 more layers on the outside of the hull.

pops starting to shape it.

starting to take shape

this is where we get some filler to straighten things out yes thats BONDO and if it cracks i'll go back and make more fiberglass filler and do it over but we will see.

and to top it off a little rattle can primer

all in all i am happy with this repair, and in the spirit of being a hot boater we did it ourselves for under 60.00 bucks. best part of the deal is i got to spend another weekend with my pops.

(disclaimer) this is by no means a tutorial on how to fix YOUR boat, this is just how i fixed mine be it right or wrong.    ralph

Good work pops ! I see pops got right to work on it while some of us rookies would just sit there scratching our domes . Looks good enough for the girls I know . Just a thought , did any of the cloth get laid across the inside for added backing . Looks good though. If you keep playin bumper boats with it , I'm gonna call it "PATCHES REVENGE!"
