Hey guys, first post here, ill start a project thread soon once the ball gets rolling.
I picked up this 78 apache for 500 bucks with the trailer(looks like hell), a disassembled good condition bbc, and a jacuzzi/ge 12yj with an american turbine conversion pump, seemed like a good enough deal to me.

About a year later i finally got around to tearing into this thing, i knew the stringers were pretty bad and they have to be replaced but im not sure about the transom.
The boat has had some fiberglass repair work done previously as seen in the pictures and a lot of it appears pretty shitty.

The transom appears to be just fiberglass or maybe very thin wood and fiberglass.

btw this is my first boat, im not new at all to fabrication or tools, i am an avid car enthusiast with many projects and love enthusiast forums like this one, very stoked to become apart of the community!

are you sure you have a jacuzzi and not a panther or berkley E pump?

the transom does not need wood unless you are going to hang stuff off it, maybe yours does because the intake is molded in the hull

Not the first time i have heard that, but it is the first time ive heard it from someone that knows a thing or two about these boats. Fortunatly for me my time and labor is essentially free and i like the experience and satisfaction of building it myself, but i know i have to draw the line somewhere....

Can you elaborate on what makes the boat just and "ok" boat even after the repairs are done?

I am trying to do this on a budget and since i already have the boat and my time doesnt cost anything im hoping im doing the right thing....So if you can keep all that in mind, do you still think im better off finding a better condition boat? What would i pay for a boat without a pump or motor thats in good condition?

i dont want to say its bad, but, it is not the most desirable out there. the pump and diverter are worth more than you paid for the boat.

This is my main reason for buying it, the seller didnt know anything about the pump, i did some research based off the pictures he sent me and decided it was worth it.

I say go for it, your time will be the biggest thing as long as you don't mind pitting in the time. After all the say time is just therapy
