Bilge coat
« on: March 08, 2020, 09:14:53 AM »
Hi fellas got a question. Have any of you ever bilge coated your floor instead of using carpet? Was thinking about polishing out the stringers and bilge coating the floor white. I know it would be slick under the feet. But just curious.

Do a search of this site, I remember seeing some thing along this line years ago. It will also make the boat noisy.

I used a quart of appliance epoxy paint a few years back and still looks brand new. Might not be the right application but works well.

I'll post more pics. I have a thread on the build of that boat, but couldn't find it the other day.

I used gelcoat mixed 1:1 with 27x1 clear. That's what people refer to as "flowcoat". I spent a ton of time prepping and that's why it came out as smooth as it did. Some guys will go further than I did and wet sand then buff out the floors after spraying the gel.

Not sure where you're located, but Shurfab in Ontario, CA carries all this stuff they're very knowledgeable. They provide most of the local boat manufacturers with resin, glass, balsa, and gelcoat.

Here's a before pic. I'll post more this afternoon

More pictures of the boat. I sold it a few years ago. It's still running around Parker.
